EDF EN Canada, EDF Energies Nouvelles’ local subsidiary, announces an agreement under which Enbridge Inc., an energy supplier operating in North America, acquires a 50% interest in the 80 MW Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind farm in Quebec.
The Saint-Robert-Bellarmin wind farm is the first project built by EDF Energies Nouvelles in Canada. Commissioned in October 2012, the power plant generates enough green energy to supply the needs of over 18,000 homes in Quebec. The electricity generated is sold to Hydro-Quebec Distribution under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement.
“Our partnership with Enbridge on the Lac-Alfred, Massif-du Sud and Blackspring Ridge projects has proven to be very successful and we are pleased to once again engage in a co-ownership relationship,” commented Tristan Grimbert, Chief Executive Officer of EDF EN North America. “Developing co-ownership in wind farms enables us to pursue our expansion while optimising our investments”.
EDF Renewable Services, the EDF EN Canada‘s operation and maintenance (O&M) affiliate, will continue to provide long-term O&M services.
Saint-Robert-Bellarmin is one of seven wind energy projects awarded to EDF EN Canada in 2008 and 2010 through Hydro-Québec call for tenders. By the end of 2015, EDF EN Canada will have developed and built wind farms with 1,003.2 MW in total capacity in Quebec province.
