EDF Energies Nouvelles enters into a Power Purchase Agreement for a 111 MW solar project in the United States

  • Solar

EDF Energies Nouvelles is announcing that its North American subsidiary, EDF Renewable Energy, has entered into a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Southern California Edison (SCE), a local investor owned utility.
This deal covers the electricity to be generated by the future 111.2 MW* Valentine solar plant to be built in California.

The Valentine solar project extends over close to 510 hectares in California’s Mojave Desert. It is located next to the 143 MWp Catalina photovoltaic power plant which was commissioned by EDF Energies Nouvelles’ group in 2013.

The project is located in one of the US regions best suited to solar energy. Besides offering favourable natural conditions, the State of California intends to revise its ambitions upwards in terms of renewable energy development.

The future photovoltaic power plant is covered by a 15-year PPA with SCE.

To date, EDF Energies Nouvelles operates 917 MWp in gross solar capacity in eight countries and has launched the construction of two other large-scale solar power plants in Chile (Laberinto project, 146 MWp) and in India (Telangana state, 96 MWp).

*The PPA covers an accurate capacity expressed in MWac, the standard measure of alternating current. 111.2 MW in installed capacity represents around 115 MWp (direct current).
