EDF Energies Nouvelles is announcing the signature of a so called Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) for 120 MW of the 154 MW Rock Falls wind project, between its local subsidiary, EDF Renewable Energy, and Kimberly-Clark Corporation.
The commissioning of the future wind farm, currently in construction in the State of Oklahoma, is expected in December 2017.
With a total capacity of 154 MW, the Rock Falls wind project is located in Kay and Grant Counties in northern Oklahoma.
The electricity generated from 120 MW of this installation will be bought by Kimberly-Clark Corporation under a long-term VPPA.
This type of so-called « Virtual » Power Purchase Agreement enables the company to reduce its carbon emissions without physically connecting its activities to the renewable energy facility.
Rock Falls is the second EDF Energies Nouvelles’ wind energy project installed in Oklahoma after the Great Western wind farm, commissioned in 2016 and supplying electricity to Google.
Through this contract, Kimberly-Clark joins the flagship companies who have partnered with EDF RE including Google, Microsoft, Salesforce, Procter & Gamble, Walmart or Yahoo.
With 9 gigawatts of projects developed, EDF Renewable Energy is one of the leaders in the North American renewable energy market.
